SWC Encrypt™ FAQS

Encrypt, Security and Protect your ActionScript in Flash component File.

- Why do I need to protect my .swc component?

Everybody knows that .swf format is open. Everyone can download it from the Adobe site. This means there is no native protection and anyone can easily "peek" at the ActionScript code and contents of the SWF file using Flash Decompiler Tools. When user import their .swc components into a swf movie, Decompiler tools break open the resources that make up a SWF file and can display the full source code, objects and other elements which make up the SWF. Some Flash Decompilers can even reproduce the .swc component directly.

Until now, the best way to protect swf movie is to use our SWF Encryption engine. But for years, there isn't any tools can protect .swc component file. If you use SWF Encryption engine to protect your swf and build it into .swc format, when you use this 'encrypted' .swc to build your Flash work, you will find the output movie can not work.

Now, if you own a copy of SWC Encrypt™, any troubles dissappear! SWC Encrypt™ can encrypt .swc component file directly without a loss of performance.

- Can decompiler tools decompose .swc component directly?

Yes. Some decompiler tools like ASV can decmopose .swc component directly. They can reveal all codes from a non-encrypted .swc component.

- Can SWC Encrypt™ protect .swc component 100% in security?

The SWF File Format is open and it is theoretically impossible to devise a 100% secure solution to prevent reverse engineering of ActionScript. That being said, however, SWC Encrypt™ provides extremely strong Encryption and Obfuscation Techniques to protect your SWC and the ActionScript within. At present, it is able to defeat all of the popular Flash Decompiler Tools. Furthermore, the protection provided discourages others from trying to spend the time to decompile or hack your SWC and SWF. The effect of obfuscation and encryption is that a person intent on stealing your code will have a harder time decompiling and figuring out your code, than it would be for them to just make it themselves.

- Can I use encrypted .swc component in Flash 8 and other 3rd party tools?

Yes. There isn't any difference between non-encrypted component and encrypted component.

- Can SWC Encrypt™ protect my .swc resources(images, shape or sound)?

No. SWC Encrypt™ can not protect any images, shape or sound resources in .swc component. There isn't any good way to protect all these resource in a Flash work.

- Can SWC Encrypt™ support Flash 9 or Flex AS3 format?

NO. Current now, SWC Encrypt™ can only support Flash 6, Flash 7 and Flash 8 format. SWC Encrypt™ will support Flash 9 and Flex AS3 format soon.

- How shall I do if I failed to encrypt my .swc component or my encrypted component can not work?
